A record breaking success!
The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting – acem action09 was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Victoria, Australia from 15 - 19 November 2009.
acem action09 succeeded in being the biggest ASM the College has ever held with the number of registrations totalling 853. The scientific program saw outstanding international keynote and local speakers deliver educational, stimulating and thought provoking presentations. The meeting's emphasis on a hands-on and interactive program also resulted in over 700 workshop places being made available to delegates with 30 workshops conducted over four action packed days.
The meeting's active encouragement of trainee participation saw a total of 122 trainee registrations across all registration categories. The trainee mentor program, an initiative introduced at this meeting, succeeded in matching trainees with Fellows of the College. Trainees were able to benefit from this interaction and gained further experience by being introduced to the wider emergency medicine network.
acem action09 also affirmed its focus on being environmentally responsible in a number of ways. A few initiatives included encouraging delegates to provide their own satchels and to register online. As well, all abstracts and the meeting handbook were provided electronically. Carbon credits were also purchased to offset the carbon emissions produced by the meeting. The carbon credits are used to support energy efficient and renewable energy projects. The organising committee would like to thank all those who assisted in reducing the impact this meeting has had on the environment.
